SUMMARY:CAA Outreach @ Twin Cities Asian Fair
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the West Metro Asian Fair this May. We are looking for a few volunteers to run outreach games to help attendees learn about animal cruelty and plant-based eating.  \nScroll down to see the volunteer signup for this event\, or visit CAA.mn/volunteer to see all available volunteer signups! \nWhat is the Twin Cities West Metro Asian Fair?\nPhoto credit to Twin Cities Asian Fair. \nThe Twin Cities Asian Fair is a free-entry festival dedicated to promoting and celebrating Asian culture and community. With over 100 booths\, 300 performers\, and 12\,000 visitors\, the Asian Fair brings dance\, costume\, games\, food\, cultural exhibits\, and more. You are welcome to set aside time to explore before or after volunteering with CAA! \nVolunteering with CAA at the Fair\nAt the event\, CAA will table between 11am and 7pm. We’ll talk to attendees about how using animals for food harms them\, and discuss plant-based eating. We’ll offer free games\, resources\, and magazines\,  \nAt the front table\, we’ll have a spin wheel game where attendees guess an answer to a question that helps them learn about common animal agriculture practices. \nSample spin wheel questions include: \n\nChicken farmers are encouraged to provide how many square feet per chicken? [Answer: less than 1\, according to the National Chicken Council and average weights]\nNearly all pigs in the US have parts of their body cut off without any painkillers. What part? [Answer: their tail\, according to studies from Porcine Health Management] \nOn egg farms\, what percentage of chicks are killed within 1 day of birth? [answer: 50% – look up chick culling] \n\nThe answers are all available on a cheat sheet for volunteers. This trivia format gives people heavy answers about animal cruelty in a digestible\, quick format. For young children who are still learning the basics of the world\, we have fun questions about animals (did you know fish can recognize different songs?). After the attendees play trivia\, we talk together about the question they got\, and provide concrete next steps\, like writing a letter to their representative or corporation or taking the Veg Pledge.  \nWho can volunteer?\nIf you’re passionate about animal welfare and providing resources to help people move towards plant-based eating\, this event is for you\, whether you’re a seasoned vegan or totally new to outreach. We’ll support you in how to do effective outreach.  \nWe ask that volunteers under 16 years old be accompanied by a parent\, guardian\, or other responsible adult. (Please sign up for just one volunteer slot together.) \nThe venue is in an outdoor park. We will have a 10×10 tent for shade\, and the sidewalks are paved. There is a pathway to get into the park without stairs.  \nHow can I sign up to volunteer? \nScroll down to see the volunteer signup for this event\, or visit CAA.mn/volunteer to see all available volunteer signups! \nResources for Volunteers\nWe’ll reach out to you via email prior to the event to share contact info and location info at the event.  \nAt the event\, you’ll meet the other people participating in outreach\, and read over all the outreach materials we are using. Then we’ll help you know what to say to attendees and give you spin wheel questions. If you’re new to outreach\, you’re welcome to watch several interactions between other people to get an idea of how conversations typically go!  \nWe’ll have snacks\, drinks\, sunspray\, and bug repellent available to volunteers at the event. \nGet involved at other Compassionate Action for Animals (CAA) events!\nCompassionate Action for Animals (CAA) hosts many events throughout the year\, including Twin Cities Veg Fest\, Vegan Recipe Club\, cooking classes\, potlucks\, outreach events\, and so much more! If you can’t make this event\, or just want to know about other opportunities to get involved with CAA\, we’ve got so many ways to connect with the community\, enjoy vegan food\, and make a difference. Visit our events page for more! \n

SUMMARY:CAA Outreach @ Eco Fair on Summit
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Eco Fair on Summit this May! We will be helping to educate attendees on the sustainability benefits of plant-based eating by offering a trivia game and educational materials\, and helping people write to the Senators supporting legal protections for animals. CAA will be in Tent #1\, the more westward tent. \nVolunteering at the Eco Fair on Summit\nCAA at the Eco Fair on Summit last year. \nAt the front table\, we’ll have a spin wheel game where attendees figure out the answer to a question that helps them learn about the ways animal agriculture harms the environment. All the answers (along with explanations and sources) are available to volunteers on a cheat sheet. Sample spin wheel questions include: \n\nWhat crop in the US uses the most fresh water? [Answer: alfalfa hay\, according to USDA stats.]\nA huge amount of pollution is created to grow corn and soy. What happens to most of the corn and soy grown in the US? [Answer: it’s fed to millions of farmed animals\, according to industry groups.] \n\nWe’ll also offer educational materials like our Minnesota Veg Living magazine\, and invite game-players to take the actions we have on offer – like filling out a letter to their representative\, trying a plant-based food sample\, or signing up for our email list. \nOutreach has overwhelmingly positive interactions. Most people care about both animal welfare and the environment\, and are at the fair to learn more! You don’t need to know everything or be a master debater coming into outreach. You’ll have some time after arrival to read over the materials and trivia questions to get the hang of things. The most important things are to be a good representative for CAA and plant-based eating – to be friendly and positive when engaging people – and to have a good balance between asking about their thoughts and questions and sharing your own information and experiences.  \nWho can volunteer and attend?\nIf you’re passionate about the climate impact of our diet\, or about helping people move towards plant-based eating\, this event is for you\, whether you’ve done outreach before or not\, and whether you’re 100% vegan or not. We’ll support you in how to do effective outreach.  \nWe ask that volunteers under 16 years old be accompanied by a parent\, guardian\, or other responsible adult.  (Please sign up for just one volunteer slot together.) \nThe venue for the event itself is fairly mobility-accessible – it is in a large\, flat parking lot under a big tent\, so there are no stairs to get in or leave. Restrooms are located inside the House of Hope Church; there are no auto-open doors\, and there are three steps to get inside. Quiet space is available in the Children’s Library space inside the Church. Gender-neutral bathrooms are available. \nHow can I sign up to volunteer? \nYou can scroll down and sign up for this event below\, or go to the volunteer page to see all volunteer opportunities! \nWhat is the Eco Fair on Summit?\nThe Eco Fair on Summit\, organized by Interfaith Power and Light\, features a variety of local vendors with products\, information\, and activities related to sustainability. From electric trucks to plant-based cooking demos to wilderness protection to CAA’s eco trivia to pollinator experts to primarily vegetarian vendors\, the Eco Fair on Summit is a place for people to learn about\, enjoy\, and take action on sustainability. \nWe’ll have snacks\, drinks\, sunscreen\, and non-deet bug repellent available to volunteers at the event. \nGet involved at other Compassionate Action for Animals (CAA) events!\nCompassionate Action for Animals (CAA) hosts many events throughout the year\, including Twin Cities Veg Fest\, Vegan Recipe Club\, the Twin Cities Vegan Chef Challenge\, cooking classes\, potlucks\, outreach events\, and so much more! SUMMARY:Join CAA at Humane Lobby Day
DESCRIPTION:A speaker at the 2025 Humane Lobby Day. \nCompassionate Action for Animals is tabling at Humane Lobby Day! Organized by Humane World for Animals (formerly the Humane Society of the United States)\, this powerful day of action at the State Capitol brings together dozens of Minnesota advocates and organizations committed to protecting animals. \nRegister online by Tuesday\, March 10\, so organizers can contact your legislators and set up a meeting on your behalf. You’ll be given thorough information beforehand to speak with your legislators alongside other constituents from your district. (You’ll also receive a plant-based lunch from Reverie Cafe + Bar with your ticket!) \nWhen you arrive at Christ Lutheran Church (105 University Ave W\, St. Paul\, MN 55103)\, you’ll have time from 10am to noon to chat with other attendees and tabling organizations. Speakers will also share information about priority legislation on companion animals\, wildlife protection\, animals used for research\, and animals raised for fur\, so you can be prepared when you head across the street to the Capitol to speak to your representatives. Representative meetings happen sporadically during the early afternoon until 3pm. \nIf you meet with your representative\, we encourage you to mention HF2764/SF2970\, which would create a plant-based school meal option available on request to Minnesota students. Read more about this legislation in a blog post from last summer. \nParking will be in the F lot at the corner of Rice St. and Fuller Ave\, with the entrance on the southeast corner of Fuller Ave. The event will be in the basement of Christ Lutheran Church\, which is approximately a 5-minute walk from the parking lot. There will also be street parking\, so participants are encouraged to show up early. \nHope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Twin Cities Veg Fest 2025: Cultivating Compassion\, Harvesting Change
DESCRIPTION:On September 21\, 2025\, over 5\,000 people joined us at Harriet Island Regional Park for Twin Cities Veg Fest. It was a joyful celebration of plant-based living\, compassion\, and community. Nearly 100 vendors\, delicious food\, inspiring speakers\, demos\, live music\, and family-friendly activities made the day unforgettable. \nSurvey results show over 90% of attendees came to try new vegan foods\, and over 60% said the festival inspired them to pursue a more compassionate lifestyle. \nA huge thank-you to our volunteers\, organizers\, and sponsors for making the Midwest’s largest plant-based festival possible. For more detail see Compassionate Action for Animals’ (the organizer’s) blog about the event. \n📸 Relive the day with our Flickr photos and videos on YouTube. \n🌱 Save the date: The next Twin Cities Veg Fest is September 2026! Check back in late winter for information on the date and location and to find out how you can join the organizing committee. Then visit this sit again in late spring to sign-up to volunteer or become a vendor. You can donate to support this important event at any time! \n  \n

The vendor lineup changes weekly. \nVolunteering at the Fair\nAt the event\, we’ll be tabling from 10am-1pm and volunteers can sign up for a two-hour shift.  Volunteers will engage attendees in discussing how to make our diets more humane by moving towards plant-based eating\, and invite interested people to take the Explore Veg Challenge and to take a simple remote action to protect animals\, like contacting their representative to promote stronger animal protections. \nAt the table\, we’ll have a spin wheel game where attendees guess an answer to a question that helps them learn about the conditions most common in agriculture. The information on the spin wheel is sourced from agricultural lobbies\, the USDA\, and academic surveys of farms. \nSample spin wheel questions include: \n\nHow many square feet of space are chicken farmers encouraged to provide for each chicken? \nPigs’ tails are part of their spine and have many nerves. What percentage of pigs on farms have their tails cut off without painkillers? \nChickens prefer to sleep through the night just like humans do. How many hours of consecutive darkness do farmers have to give birds to let them sleep?\n\nDon’t worry\, we’ll make sure you have the answers! \nThere is also a set of kid-friendly questions that encourage empathy for animals. We use these kid-friendly questions when children stop by.  \nWho can volunteer?\nIf you’re passionate about animal rights and/or welfare\, or about helping people move towards plant-based eating\, this event is for you. We’ll support you in how to do effective outreach. All are welcome to volunteer and no experience is required.  \nSupport for Volunteers\nWe’ll reach out to you a few days prior to the event to confirm your participation.  At that time we’ll introduce you to the staff leading the event. You’ll get their cell phone number in case anything comes up day-of. At the event\, we’ll make sure you get a chance to know the staff and other volunteers participating in outreach. Then we’ll help you know what to say to attendees and give you spin wheel questions.  \nBefore your shift\, after your shift\, or during a quiet time in your shift\, we’ll have a plant-based snack and a drink for you to enjoy. We’ll also have a first aid kit on hand\, in case its needed. \nGet involved at other Compassionate Action for Animals (CAA) events!\nCompassionate Action for Animals (CAA) hosts many events throughout the year\, including Twin Cities Veg Fest\, the Twin Cities Vegan Chef Challenge\, Vegan Recipe Club\, cooking classes\, potlucks\, outreach events\, and so much more! If you can’t make this event\, or just want to know about other opportunities to get involved with CAA\, we’ve got so many ways to connect with the community\, enjoy vegan food\, and make a difference.
